He is originally from Marietta, Georgia where he was a Drum Major of the Wheeler High School Wildcat Pride for two years. He is in his fourth year at the University, working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his past three years in the Band, David has assisted with several of the MMB's halftime dance sequences, served as band week rank leader for two years, and choreographed for Mock Rock. Aside from Marching Band, he is also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, the Nu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, and is a leader of the Michigan Marching Band Bible Study. David, son of Ann and David Hines, has three siblings; Tori, Shelby, and Kendall.

David will serve as Michigan's "Man Up Front" for the 2009 season.
