Drum Tech 2008 Announcement
December 11th, 2007:
Hi Everyone,
Due to the large number of drumline auditionees, we will have a series of short auditions in January (each about 8-10 minutes in length) over the course of Saturday (5th), Sunday (6th), and Monday (7th). Auditions will take place between 12:00pm and 3:00 pm on Saturday (5th), 4:30pm and 7:00pm on Sunday (6th), and 4:30pm and 6:00pm on Monday (7th).
If you are new to the Michigan Drumline (and live an hour or less from Ann Arbor), you should plan to audition on one of these three days! PLEASE EMAIL ME YOUR DAY OF PREFERENCE BY 12:00PM, JANUARY 3RD!!!
I will then email everyone a list of audition times. This audition is NOT for acceptance to the drumline....this is simply a preliminary audition to best determine which section is the best fit for you to audition for. You will be expected to demonstrate good time keeping ability as well as great quality of sound w/ clean rhythmic consistency. Familiarity with our exercise packet is helpful, but not an absolute requirement at this point. Those interested in snare must play traditional grip. Potential Snares, Tenors and Basses should expect to play: legato strokes (ie. 8,12 or 16 on a hand), accent / tap strokes, double beat, triple beat, rolls (snares and tenors should also demonstrate knowledge of flam rudiments). Basses and Cymbals should both be prepared to demonstrate subdivision / timing exercises (ie, clapping or playing on the beat, the "e" of the beat, the "and", and the "ah"....etc. etc.)
If you live more than an hour away, and are still able to attend drum tech classes occasionally, I highly encourage you to attend on our first official meeting for new members on the 7th! If you can attend, I will hear your audition before the class begins (between 6:00 and 7pm) and then you may stay for the remainder of the class. (this will avoid making a long drive in on the week prior just to be there for 10 minutes)
The following week (the 14th) all returning members will join us for the first class with everyone (new and returning members).
I look forward to hearing from ALL new members in the coming weeks to schedule an audition time.
Don't forget to tune in for the Capital One Bowl on Janusary 1st!
Go Blue!
